How Does Tennis Without Borders Work?
Tennis Without Borders is a 501c3 organization whose mission is to help children worldwide pursue life opportunities on and off the court through the sport of tennis. We provide tennis instruction, gear, rackets and we also offer academic support. We have assisted in International programs in Cameroon, Uganda, Ghana and Colombia.
In the United States, we have collaborated with many NJTL'S (National jr Tennis and Learning Centers - an Arthur Ashe legacy program combining education and tennis to underprivileged youth)
Currently, we are supporting The Sportsmen's Enrichment Center in Dorchester, MA, Stamford Youth Tennis in Norwalk, CT. aNd the Stay and Play program at the CLCYMCA in Damariscotta, ME.
We have also collaborated with foundations like Kids on the Ball in Vermont and The Cobscook Community Learning Center in Washington County, ME.
In 2018, we implemented an art component to our trip to Cameroon and again in Colombia IN 2019. We found that in addition to supporting programs with tennis instruction and equipment that the art projects united all of us immediately aND tapped into a side of the children that maybe had not been touched before. The ability for each child to express themselves through the arts and tennis seemed to be a perfect combination.
WE HAVE MADE SEVEN TRIPS TO AFRICA, A TRIP TO COLOMBIA, aND WE ALSO TRAVEL all OVER NEW ENGLAND TO TRAIN COACHES AND CHILDREN, WHILE HELPING RAISE AWARENESS OF HOW TENNIS CAN BRING TRUE ENJOYMENT TO ALL WHO ARE INVOLVED.
